Neighbourhood crime, violence or vandalism in 2023

In 2023, 10% of people in the EU reported experiencing crime, violence or vandalism in their neighbourhood. This percentage was higher for people at risk of poverty, at 12.3%, compared with 9.6% of those not at risk of poverty.

Across EU countries, the highest shares among people at risk of poverty reporting crime, violence or vandalism were recorded in Greece (23.7%), the Netherlands (21.1%) and Belgium (19.5%), while the lowest were observed in Croatia (1.2%), Poland (2.4%) and Lithuania (3.6%).

The situation was similar for people not at risk of poverty. The highest shares of people reporting crime, violence or vandalism were in Greece (20.2%), the Netherlands (16.1%) and Bulgaria (14.6%), whereas the lowest were recorded in Croatia (1.5%), Slovakia (2.4%) and Lithuania (2.5%).
